No worries! It’s a simple game to start with. This manual is intended to get you started in the fastest possible way. Read it and then start playing! After a while come back and read the secong part to learn a bit more. Its actually after the 2nd article you will be able to impress you friends.
When you start the game you get dealt some tiles. Since you have never played mahjong before they will look kinda scary/cool. Look carefully and you will see that some of the tiles resembel each other. There is a good reason for that they are suit. Here you will see all the three different suits of tiles. Important! The turorial is meant for classic rules and does not take into account hand scores![/text_output][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner inner_container=”true” no_margin=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” bg_video=”” class=”” style=””][vc_column_inner fade=”true” fade_animation=”in-from-left” fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/2″ id=”” class=”” style=””][custom_headline level=”h4″ looks_like=”h4″ id=”” class=”” style=””]Tiles[/custom_headline][text_output]BAMBOOS
Note! Bamboo 1 looks kinda birdish for bamboo. Thats just the way it is!
CHARACTERS
CIRCLES
There are also sets honor tiles, the winds and the dragons. You can easily recognize them because they don’t have a numeral character in the corner helping you to recognize them. Believe me, You don’t actually need to tell them apart to play. You just need to see which ones look exactly the same. Here they are:
WINDS & DRAGONS
And then there are the season and flower tiles. Now you might feel a bit uneasy, but you really do not need to know about them! Here they are:
FLOWERS & SEASONS
In our mahjong client your tiles will be sorted according to suit and rank (Balmboos first, the characters, circles, winds and dragons). The flowers are declared immediately and you will receieve a new replacement. Thats why you really don’t need to recognize them.[/text_output][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner fade=”true” fade_animation=”in-from-right” fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/2″ id=”” class=”” style=””][custom_headline level=”h4″ looks_like=”h4″ id=”” class=”” style=””]The Game Play…[/custom_headline][text_output]…is by far the easies part, once you have the ability to recognize the tiles. The goal of the game is to ‘go mahjong’ by completing a hand composed of sets (called melds). The sets (melds) may be 3 or 4 tiles that look the same (called Pong or Kong) or three tiles of the same suite in a sequence. The last set of tiles declared may also consist of two similar tiles. You complete your hand by drawing a tile and then discarding (a less usefull) one when its your turn to play. In some cases you are allowed to pick up a tile that has just been discarded by another player. In those cases you will automatically get the option (the meld dialog). If you do not have that option then the client will automatically draw a tile for you. Here are some examples of melds:
Here are some complete mahjong hands. Note that in each hand there is a meld that is composed of two similar tiles.[/text_output][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner inner_container=”true” no_margin=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” bg_video=”” class=”” style=””][vc_column_inner fade=”true” fade_animation=”in-from-left” fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/2″ id=”” class=”” style=””][custom_headline level=”h4″ looks_like=”h4″ id=”” class=”” style=””]Beginner’s Questions[/custom_headline][accordion id=”” class=”” style=””][accordion_item parent_id=”” title=”Why can’t I declare my meld (set of three) its right there in my hand?” id=”” class=”” style=””]If you have drawn a tile from the wall (rather than from another player) then you can not declare that to other players. Note that it is still valid meld and will give you points at the end of the game. and if you think about it, declaring a meld without needing to, will give your oponents more info in the game, decreasing your chances to win.[/accordion_item][accordion_item parent_id=”” title=”Hey I only got one tile in my hand, how am I supposed to go mahjong?” id=”” class=”” style=””]You will have to either draw a similar tile from the wall or wait for someone else to discard one. As has been explained above a complete hand may have a pair as well. Just make sure that the three other similar tiles have not been discarded, or declared in other melds. Or you wont stand a chance of winning.

Well sorry they are not… Just remember three or four of the same or three in a row. three 1s, 8s 9s or whatever of different suits wont help you either.
